We built HiFam for our own families, so we wrote this to be read by parents — not lawyers. Here’s the short version; the full details are below.
We never sell your data
Nothing your family types is ever used for ads or marketing — it’s built into the architecture, not just promised.
We don’t read your kids’ chats
They’re stored so the dashboard and safety flags work; a human only opens one in narrow, logged cases — a safety flag to you, a problem you ask us to fix, or a legal must.
You decide what’s kept
Set how long history lasts — and view, export, or permanently delete any of it, anytime.
Delete means delete
Gone from our systems right away, and out of encrypted backups within 30 days.
AI providers don’t train on your family
Anthropic and OpenAI process conversations under terms that prohibit it.
Concerns come to you
A sensitive moment goes back to your family — never anywhere else.
Behind HiFam is a small family team — not a faceless company — and we hold your family’s data to the standard we want for our own. If anything ever worries you, or you spot something you think we should know about, just email us at hello@hifam.com. We’d genuinely rather hear from you. That’s the whole reason we built this ourselves instead of leaving it to Big Tech.— The HiFam family

Hi Fam LLC (“HiFam,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a limited liability company organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, respects your family’s privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through our website, web application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”), how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. Because HiFam is built for families, we have written this policy to be read by parents and guardians. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
1.Who this policy applies to
HiFam is designed to be set up and managed by a parent or legal guardian (the “Account Holder”). The Account Holder must be at least 18 years old. Children use the Service only under an account created and controlled by their parent or guardian. We do not allow children to create their own accounts, and we rely on the Account Holder to provide and manage consent for each child profile they add.
2.Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information — the Account Holder’s name, email address, and password (stored in hashed form).
- Family profiles — the child profiles you create, which may include a first name or nickname, age or age range, and the values, preferences, and guidance you set for that child.
- Family values and settings — the toggles, prompts, and free-text instructions you provide to shape how HiFam responds.
- Payment information — when you subscribe, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our servers; we retain limited billing details such as subscription status and the last four digits of a card.
- Communications — messages you send us at hello@hifam.com or through support channels.
Information created through use of the Service
- Conversation content — the messages exchanged between a child profile and HiFam, which are processed to generate responses and to provide safety features.
- Safety signals — indicators generated when a conversation matches patterns the Account Holder has asked us to watch for (for example, self-harm, bullying, or predatory contact).
- Usage and device data — log data such as IP address, browser type, device and operating system, pages viewed, and timestamps, collected to operate and secure the Service.
3.Children’s privacy (COPPA)
We take the privacy of children seriously and design the Service to comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”).
- A child profile and any information associated with it is created by, and remains under the control of, the Account Holder, who provides verifiable parental consent by creating the account and adding the child.
- We collect personal information from children only as needed to provide the Service the parent has requested, and we do not condition a child’s participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.
- We do not use children’s information for behavioral advertising, and we do not sell children’s information.
- What you see: by default, the Account Holder can review a child’s conversation history in the dashboard. You can switch any child to summaries-only, so you see the topics and timeline rather than every word. Either way, serious safety flags always reach you in full.
- Where a sensitive moment goes: if a child explores something private or hard, it is handled within the family — gently redirected in the moment, and surfaced to you when it matters for safety. It is never published, never shared externally, never sold, and never turned into advertising. The only place it goes is back to you.
- The Account Holder may review, export, or delete a child’s information at any time, and may refuse to permit further collection by deleting the child profile or the account.
If you believe a child has provided us personal information without the involvement of a parent or guardian, please contact hello@hifam.com and we will promptly delete it.
4.How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including generating HiFam’s responses according to the values you set.
- To provide safety features, such as alerting the Account Holder when a conversation matches patterns they asked us to watch for.
- To process subscriptions, billing, and free trials, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To respond to your support requests and communicate with you about the Service.
- To secure the Service, debug issues, and comply with legal obligations.
We use conversation content to operate the Service and the features you enable. We do not sell your or your family’s personal information, and we do not use it to serve third-party advertising.
Humans see as little as possible. We do not routinely read conversations — we’re a small team with a long to-do list, and your eight-year-old’s deep dive on Minecraft mobs isn’t on it. Improving the Service uses aggregated, de-identified metrics, not a person browsing your child’s chats. A team member opens an identifiable conversation only in narrow, access-controlled, logged cases: to deliver a safety flag to you, to investigate a problem you ask us to fix, or where required by law. Children’s identifiable conversations are not used as training material.
Conversations never touch marketing. There is no path connecting anything you or your child types to advertising, marketing, or email targeting — the marketing system has no access to conversation data, by design. We keep your account email and may tell you about HiFam and our other products, but those messages are never customized using conversation content, and you can opt out in one click.
5.How we share information
We share information only in the limited circumstances below:
- Service providers — vendors who help us run the Service (for example, cloud hosting, payment processing, and AI model providers), who are bound by contract to protect the information and use it only to provide services to us. Our AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) process conversations under commercial API terms that do not permit training their models on our inputs or outputs.
- Legal and safety — when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, or is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of a child, you, us, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the protections of this policy.
We never sell your data, and we never share it with advertisers.
6.Data retention & deletion
You control how long your child’s conversations are kept. Each child profile has a history-length setting. Conversations older than the window you choose are automatically and permanently deleted on a recurring sweep — anything you’ve saved, and any conversation flagged for safety, is kept regardless. You can also delete individual conversations, a child profile, or your entire account at any time, and export your family’s data whenever you like.
Deletion is real. When you delete something — or when a conversation reaches the end of its retention window — we hard-delete it from our active systems promptly (not a quiet “soft delete” tucked in a basement we pretend to forget about), and it is purged from our encrypted backups within 30 days. The limited exceptions are records we must retain to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Account information we don’t need is kept only as long as necessary to run the Service.
7.How we protect information
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. Conversations and account data are encrypted in transit and at rest, access is restricted on a need-to-know basis, and we monitor our systems for vulnerabilities. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work hard to protect your family.
8.Your rights and choices
You can, at any time:
- Access and update your account and family information from your account at app.hifam.ai.
- Export your family’s data.
- Delete conversations, child profiles, or your entire account.
- Cancel your subscription.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To make a request, email hello@hifam.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law.
9.Cookies and analytics
Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies — the boring digital kind that keep the site working and remember your preferences, not the kind that improve your afternoon. We use them to operate the site and understand aggregate usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles of you or your children.
10.International users
We are based in the United States, and the Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
11.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
